Gloucestershire police are appealing for information after a 37-year-old man was hospitalised, following a hit and run incident outside the Beauchamp Arms pub in Dymock.

The man had just left the pub on Sunday evening, at around 10.40pm, when he was hit by a vehicle that did not stop.

The alarm was raised by a girl who had left the pub shortly after the man.

Her arrival back in the pub stunned regulars at a quiz night who were not aware that an accident had just taken place.

Landlord John Griffiths said the man himself had possibly stepped off the kerb by Wintour's Green and had only felt the blow of the impact.

He had not seen the car that struck him, and so police at present do not have a description of the car they are seeking.

Mr Griffiths, who quickly left the bar to tend to the injured man, said: "He had a gash on his cheek and his leg was obviously broken, in a bad way. He asked me for a cigarette, so I rolled him one."

The man was in obvious pain but remained conscious throughout his ordeal.

Mr Griffiths made him as comfortable as be could by covering him with a coat and mopping his face with a damp cloth.

Mr Griffiths said both an ambulance and the police were quickly on the scene.

Gloucestershire Constabulary are appealing for anyone who can help with their enquires.

The injured man was taken to Gloucester Royal Hospital with severe leg injuries.

He was transferred to Cheltenham General Hospital on Wednesday, where his condition the following day was reported to be "comfortable".
