A RED Cross charity cyclist tackled the 14 miles from Worcester to Ledbury to raise awareness of a 700-mile sponsored ride he is planning for this summer.

Ted Nawrat, who works at the regional Red Cross headquarters in Worcester, hopes to pedal all the way to Geneva for the charity, a distance of around 700 miles.

He will set out on June 29 but first he needs sponsorship to make his efforts all the more worthwhile.

Ruth Whittaker, manageress of the Ledbury Red Cross Shop in New Street, Ledbury, volunteered to do all she could to raise the profile of Mr Nawrat, to the point that the premises is now a campaign base for his endeavours.

Mrs Whittaker said: "People need to know what he's planning. In the Channel Tunnel he'll be pedalling all the time, in that case on a static bike."

Posters are on display and sponsorship forms are now available in the shop.

On Tuesday, March 23, Mr Nawrat demonstrated both his fitness and his gratitude by cycling from the Red Cross Regional HQ in Worcester all the way to Ledbury.
