A plan for ten new houses in Colwall could be given the go-ahead after all.

The application from Miton Ltd is for the three-bedroom houses off Station Road.

It was initially rejected by Herefordshire councillors on the ground that the density of the development was too great for the site.

There was also significant opposition from local residents.

However, officers have asked the planning committee to reconsider the application at a meeting on Wednesday (March 31), as it is feared an appeal would overturn the decision and leave the council liable for costs.

Head of planning services Jonathan Barret said that the plan raised crucial policy issues.

n A plan for a two-storey extension at a house at Bayern, Walwyn Road, Colwall, was recommended for approval by the parish council. Members felt it was a big improvement on an application submitted last year.

A detached house and garage on land adjacent to Kidalton, Walwyn Road, was also recommended for approval. Concern was raised about the welfare of a Wellingtonia tree on the property, which is subject to a tree preservation order. However, members heard the house would be sited well clear of the tree.

The final decision on both planning applications will be made by Herefordshire Council.
