Close encounters with a giant fluffy duck and the massed ranks of the police choir are just two of the recent highlights for Hereford City Rotary Club's President Alan Tringham. The duck was auctioned for his charity The Acorns Children's Hospice Appeal, at a gala black-tie dinner, and the police choir were in fine voice at a sell-out concert in aid of the same appeal. As a result a cheque for £2,500 was presented to the Acorns fundraiser Fran Winterbourn. At the same time, the club has continued with its support of its usual charities ranging from Kids Out to a clean water system for Kumi Hospital in Uganda, through the Farmers' Overseas Aid Group. Other activities in the busy calender of bucket shakes, guest speakers and committee meetings saw an enthusiastic response to the offer of a free blood pressure check on Stroke Awareness Day, an open event for prospective members with legendary referee Jim Finney and intensive planning for a major golf Am/Am event in June.
