THE Royal Welsh Agricultural Society's policy of encouraging young people to adopt a competitive spirit by involving them in events at the annual Builth Wells show in July is to receive a boost this year.

Young cattle handlers will be able to compete for prizes worth £560 in a competition sponsored by Marks and Spencer.

The High Street store is putting up the money to encourage young competitors between 16 and 27 years of age to test their ability to control and show cattle to their best advantage in the show ring.

There will be two separate competitions, one using beef cattle and the other dairy breeds, and both will be judged at the same time during the last morning of the show - Thursday, July 22.
