Hereford MP Paul Keetch opened the new laboratories at Bulmers and joined general manager Willie Crawshay for a tour of the new facilities on Monday.

The development is the first phase of a programme, which will see Scottish and Newcastle, as the new owners of Bulmers, invest over £4m upgrading the Hereford site during this year.

Constructed at a cost of £300,000, the building contains separate laboratories for analytical and microbioligcal testing.

This project will be followed with further investment in a sensory evaluation suite equipped with tasting booths and computerised analysis of results.

The main contractor was Hereford-based builders Trulands.
