Ross-on-Wye Round Table will be forced to close - unless new members come forward.

Membership of the Table is at a critical level, it has been revealed.

"Many past members have left due to 'commitments at home', but it is possible to balance the two - I run two successful businesses in Ross and have a young family and I still have time to enjoy Round Table," said Geof Jones, its chairman.

"All current members are busy workers with families and we are all driven by the thought of making a difference in this town with projects like the Better Benches."

As an example of the work the organisation does in the town, 12 new benches are to be placed at Long Acres and Rope Walk by the riverside within the next month.

Funding for the new benches has been raised through the Better Benches initiative organised in partnership with the Round Table. But in recent months the scheme has suffered setbacks.

"We apologise for the delays in the 'Better Benches' initiative, but due to low membership in the Round Table and delays getting pledges for the benches, it took longer than anticipated," said Mr Jones.

"But thanks to continued support from Herefordshire Council and the sponsors that have kindly made donations to the project, we have secured orders for 12 benches."
