SEVEN students at Hereford Music Studios achieved the near impossible in the first batch of entries for the London College of Music's electric guitar examinations.

All seven gained honours - the highest possible grade - with Peter Horne attaining a remarkable 100%.

School principal Peter Goodall, himself an accomplished session musician and leader of the 1969 number one hit band Thunderclap Newman, is delighted.

"The London College exams are based on today's requirements for the aspiring rock musician and bring out the improvising skills essential for success.

"These results reflect the potential in Herefordshire."

Student places for rock, blues, classical and folk are filling up and 25-year-old teacher Richard Phelps was recently recruited to meet demand.

A full recording studio is currently under construction at the Cattle Market site, which will be available for group and individual recording.
