A large number of men and women over the age of 50 in the Ledbury area have registered to join a new free-to-join Senior Citizens in Information Technology Club.

The new club has been established to encourage over 50's and senior citizens from within Ledbury and the surrounding villages to learn more about computers and the opportunities that exist from surfing the World Wide Web.

The new club will be held on the third Thursday of every month at Ledbury Rugby Club, from 2.30 to 4.30pm, and is free to all interested people over 50 within the region.

The first session will focus on the needs of members to improve their information technology skills and the use of digital imagery in the creation of photographs.

Further sessions will follow about the Internet, emailing, designing cards and letters, tracing family trees on the Internet, also on choosing a computer and maintaining it.

The new scheme is being run by TechComp Services from Ledbury which sells computer hardware and software.

Tony Friedlander of TechComp Services said: ''We have decided to develop this club as we have been inundated with enquiries from the over-50s seeking advice.''
