HEREFORDSHIRE are through to the knockout stages of the Inter-county Short Bowls Champion-ship after beating Wiltshire in their final league match.

Herefordshire made a good start, winning three of the first four matches of the morning session at the Larruperz Centre, Ross-on-Wye. But the visitors fought back to level on eight points each by the lunch break with Herefordshire holding a slender five-shot advantage.

During the afternoon, however, Herefordshire stepped up a gear and moved away to win by 22-14, gaining 187 shots to 154.

John Stannard won both of his singles matches and there was also double success for Sheila Wye's triples teams and the two fours teams skipped by Dave Gardiner and Frank Garrett.

Herefordshire will now seek a place in the quarter-finals when they travel to Somerset to take on Cornwall in the preliminary stage.
