MEMBERS and visitors responded generously when Burghill Valley held an Open Stableford golf day in aid of the tsunami appeal.

Set up at short notice, the event attracted 100 competitors and with members and visitors contributing their entry fee, donations and an impromptu auction, a total of £1,310 was raised.

Results, men: 1 Mel Bennion (Belmont) 42 pts, 2 Paul Blevins (Belmont) 41, 3 Gary Hughes (The Hereford-shire) 40, 4 Bill Cullis (The Herefordshire) 39, 5 John Freeman (Burghill Valley) 39.

Ladies: 1 Sheila Glinos 36 pts, 2 Carol Freeman 35, 3 Ann Allen, Joan Dukes 34 (all Burghill Valley).

n Hereford Municipal's new junior captain Jack Larkin used the January Winter League stableford to officially drive into office but could only manage 11th place.

Mark Keddie showed a welcome return to form to post a winning 41 points, one clear of runner-up Shaun Chambers. Gareth Hardistry was third with 38 and also shared the twos sweep with Harry Magee.

Ladies: 1 Pam Williams 34 pts, 2 Sharon Helps 31, 3 Diane Slater 29.

n Shaun Bufton and Wayne Gwynne were the clear winners of the latest Belmont Winter League better-ball stableford with an impressive 48 points.

They finished three clear of runners-up Luke Morris and Alex Phillips, who pipped third placed Des Davies and Colin Tolley on a card countback.

n A two-shot reduction in handicap did not stop Andy Edey winning the latest round of the Kington Senior Winter League stableford.

n The Herefordshire seniors defied some wet and windy conditions to produce some creditable scores in the January stableford, Jeff Burkin leading the way with a splendid 40 points.
