Hereford bowed out of the EHA Men's Veteran Cup with a 6-1 defeat at Stourport.

But the loss was certainly no disgrace against one of the tournament favourites who included a number of former internationals in their side.

Hereford goalkeeper Pete Preece was in the action right from the start and, with the help of solid defensive work from Pete Williams, Nigel Mundy and Tim Block, kept the home side at bay until just before the interval when they scored twice in quick succession.

The city side stepped up the pressure after the interval and both Steve Mumford and Pete Hood fired shots against the woodwork before Steve Alderton reduced arrears from a Mumford cross.

But as the end approached, Stourport made their greater strength pay and scored four further goals to emphasise their superiority.
