Hinton 2 Blackheath Town 0
HINTON extended their winning run to five matches and leapfrogged their opponents into fourth place in a competitive West Midlands League Division 1 clash at a muddy Broomy Hill.
This latest victory, the second over a top-five team in recent weeks, was based on a fine defensive display, with the back four of Liam Craig, Phil Glover, Darren Birch and Mike Marsden outstanding.
Both teams defied the difficult conditions to play attacking football with Hinton looking far more dangerous in front of goal.
Phil Glover's early header was just tipped over the bar and Simon Gwynne's 20-yarder clipped the woodwork.
Midway through the half a Blackheath striker got clear but was thwarted by an excellent near-post save by Dave Spencer.
It was much the same after the break with Hinton winning the midfield battle and creating chances. John Williams broke the deadlock in the 70th minute when he crashed a cross from Jody Dawe into the roof of the net.
Substitute Luke Semple was soon in action and, after going close with a couple of efforts, provided fellow substitute Anthony Robbins with a simple tap-in to seal victory.
