Shawbury United 5
Wellington 2
THIS game was an excellent advertisement for the West Midlands League Premier Division while the scoreline slightly flattered the hosts who enjoyed the run of the ball and took all their chances.
In the second minute Wellington's Matt Williams beat the advancing goalkeeper but his shot went agonisingly past the upright and within minutes Shawbury took the lead from a penalty for a harshly-judged handling offence.
An element of fortune gifted Shawbury their second goal, the ball rebounding kindly from Owen Marriott's face to leave a close range tap-in, but there was no argument about the third when a mistake at the back was duly punished.
Wellington hit back just before the break when Peter Wallace headed home a Williams free-kick, but straight from the restart Shawbury restored their three-goal advantage when the visitors failed to clear a high ball into the box.
Although Wellington continued to play good football, they fell further behind as Shawbury broke quickly.
A goal from Kenny Styles then signalled the start of a final flourish from the visitors, who dominated the closing stages but could not add to their tally.
