HEREFORD United added another clutch of records on Saturday to their already impressive tally this season, writes RICHARD PRIME.

Andy Tretton's winner was their 54th away goal of the season, beating Barnet's Conference record of 53 set 13 years ago.

Their seventh successive win is now the best in the Conference this season and is United's best sequence since John Charles was in charge in the 1970-1 season.

In inflicting Halifax's 100th Conference defeat, United won for the 12th time away from home this season, the first time they have achieved such a figure since winning the Third Division title in 1975-6. They have exceeded this total only once, with 15 away victories in 1964-5.

United have now gained 79 points this season, the best in their 80-year history. This, of course, includes many seasons when only two points were awarded for a win.

Steve Guinan's goal on Saturday was his 37th in the Conference, making him the club's leading scorer in the competition and beating Rob Elmes' previous best of 36.

Saturday's match was the 450th in all competitions since Graham Turner took over as director of football in 1995. United have won 178, drawn 117 and lost 151 of those games, scoring 639 goals and conceding 540.
