THOSE who were there will never forget Steve Kindon's devastating performance for Wolves at Edgar Street 27 years ago when his powerful running led the Midlanders to a 6-1 success.

Kindon's latest performance in Hereford, as an after-dinner speaker at Hereford United's fund-raising dinner at the Three Counties Hotel last Thursday, proved that he is an equally adept performer off the field, too.

Kindon drew on his experiences over a 15-year playing career with Burnley, Wolves and Huddersfield and five years as commercial manager at Huddersfield as the basis for a riotously-funny speech.

United's Tony James and Danny Williams stood up well as the butts of Kindon's humour which featured excellent comic timing and delivery in a string of hilarious anecdotes.

With United's director of football Graham Turner as an accomplished compere and more humour from Ian 'Sludge' Lees, the evening was a great success as an entertainment for around 200 guests.

But, equally important from United's point of view, it was also a hit financially with stand-up bingo, a prize draw and an auction featuring a number of attractive items boosting the night's profit to around £6,000.

"It was a super night, a great success and we made some money for the club," said Graham Turner.
