Hereford United boss Graham Turner fears that the club faces disciplinary action from the Football Association unless the 'hooligan element' is stamped out of their following.

The United chief believes the FA will not hesitate to impose a points deduction or a heavy fine if the sickening scenes like those at Burton Albion last Friday are repeated.

Turner is now appealing to Hereford supporters to identify the group of 30 hooligans who spilled on to the pitch at half-time and attacked Burton fans in the Pop Side stand.

One Burton supporter was kicked and punched after falling on to the pitch in an attempt to escape the trouble, which lasted nine minutes.

Turner warned that a club ban would now be imposed on any supporter who is caught encroaching on to the pitch or charged with a football-related offence.

"The simple fact is that we have got to get the idiots out of this club before the FA take action," he said.

Hereford substitute David Brown tried to tackle thugs as he warmed up during the interval.

"A few of them were laying into a young lad from Burton and I tried to pull them off him," said the striker. "You don't want to see scenes like that anywhere. I thought it was going to get worse because there were no police in sight and only five or six stewards.

"The players do no want to be associated with idiots who fight and run onto the pitch."

Staffordshire police are liasing with both clubs, and with police in Hereford, to identify those involved.

Anyone with information should call Staffordshire police (01785 234734) or Crimestoppers (0800 555111).
