Hereford United boss Graham Turner has strengthened his squad ahead of the final two pre-season warm-up games at Edgar Street against Birmingham City tonight and Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday, writes Glyn Wictome.

He has signed striker Daniel Carey-Bertram and versatile midfielder-defender Dean Craven on one-year contracts.

He said: " Both have impressed in training and the pre-season games and will be useful acquisitions to the squad."

Hereford coach Richard O'Kelly knows both players who were on West Brom's books when he was the Baggies' youth team coach.

Carey-Bertram has shown that he has an eye for goal in the warm-up matches, while Craven, who spent two years with Shrewsbury Town, will be able to cover the left-sided positions.

Trialist Peter Wilding, a defender who played in some of the pre-season matches, was offered terms by United but has decided to join Welshpool on a part-time basis.

Turner is also still hoping to sign a goalkeeper and a right-back to further strengthen his squad.

Birmingham have promised to bring down a strong team for tonight's game, kick-off 7.45pm, and Kidderminster will be at full strength for Saturday, kick-off 3pm.

These will be United's last matches before they travel to Tamworth to open their Nationwide Conference campaign on Saturday, August 9.

Centre-half Andy Tretton is doubtful for the Birmingham clash with a slight back strain but should be available for Saturday.

Striker Steve Guinan is back to full match fitness and the only other absentee from tonight's squad will be David Brown, who is making good progress after a broken collar-bone.

Admission prices for both matches will be £7 and £3 concessions, with the clubs sharing the gate money.

Before the start of Saturday' match there will be a minute's silence for Dolly Davies, a long-standing supporter who died this week.

Turner said: "She was a fantastic supporter and it is a sad loss to the club."
