Hereford United have completed the signing of former Manchester United trainee David Brown on a one-season deal.

The 24-year-old striker turned down a new contract from rivals Telford United in favour of a switch to Edgar Street.

Brown finished last season's campaign as top scorer at the Shropshire club with 17 goals and finalised the move with Hereford boss Graham Turner on Tuesday.

The Bolton-born marksman spent a year at Telford and he has also played for Hull City, Torquay United and Chester City.

Brown said: "I met Graham Turner a couple of weeks ago and he made me feel very welcome and they have got ambitious plans for next season."

Turner said: "David has a good pedigree, having spent three years at Manchester United, and he scored 17 goals last season for a side that did not do particularly well. He's got pace, mobility, holds the ball up well and can finish off chances."

Brown has become the second Telford player to move to United in a week following 20-year-old midfielder Jordan King, who has also completed a one-season deal with the Bulls. King, the son of former Telford boss Jake King, once had a trial with Premiership side Everton but he was hampered by injury last season and made just 17 starts for the New Bucks Head outfit.

Central defender Richard Teesdale, who joined United before the start of the last campaign, has also put pen to paper to seal a new one-season deal with United.

Meanwhile, United have arranged a pre-season friendly against Birmingham City at Edgar Street on Thursday, July 31 (7.45pm) and they can now finalise the dates of their away friendlies with Bromyard Town, Grosvenor Park and Ludlow Town. United's trip to Ludlow had been pencilled in for July 29, but the date for that game may now be changed.

l Hereford United's 55th annual general meeting will be at the Three Counties Hotel, Hereford, on Friday, June 27 at 7pm.
