Westfields 3 Bridgnorth Town 1

TWO goals from striker Paul Burton helped Westfields gain their 19th Midland Alliance win of the season at allpay.park on Monday and extract revenge for a defeat by a similar scoreline at Bridgnorth back in August.

Westfields made a strong start and Matt Beale fired just over in the early stages before skipper Roy Jordan got away down the right and pulled the ball back for Burton to open the scoring from close range in the 35th minute.

But the visitors were back on level terms before the interval when a tremendous header from Gareth Vaughan gave Mark Hopkins in the home goal no chance.

Burton was foiled by a fine save from Bridgnorth goalkeeper Matt Lunn just before the break but was not to be denied early in the second period when he capitalised on good work by Derek Craddock to net with a low drive from 18 yards.

Craddock then had a header cleared off the line and a Jordan drive was tipped over before Mark Hibbard followed up to net the third after Lunn had parried a Burton shot.

THREE players were sent off as Westfields slipped to defeat against lowly Biddulph in Saturday's Midland Alliance clash.

Westfields goalkeeper Mark Hopkins, on duty because Jon Pugh is away on international duty with the England Blind team in Argentina, was the first to go when he brought down Andy Bourne as the home striker was bearing down on goal.

Home skipper Steve Callear put Biddulph ahead with the resulting 52nd minute spot-kick.

Just minutes later, Scott Jackson was also on his way when he brought down Bourne and was dismissed with the home forward joining him after retaliating.

Derek Craddock took over from Hopkins in the Westfields goal and made a couple of good saves as Biddulph strove to build on their numerical advantage. Despite this, it was the visitors who came closest to scoring through Matt Beale, who blazed over after a fine run, Paul Burton and Roy Jordan.

Goodwin in the home goal repeatedly came to his side's rescue to ensure that Biddulph gained revenge for their defeat by a similar scoreline at Westfields' temporary Stourport headquarters earlier in the season.
