Hereford United boss Graham Turner is set to appeal against the dismissal of John Grant in last Saturday's defeat against Nation-wide Conference title-favourites Yeovil Town, writes Ian Morgan.

The United manager has now had time to review video evidence of the first-half fracas that led to the instant red card of the former Crewe youngster.

Although Turner did not condone the striker's reaction, he thought there was a high level of provocation on midfielder Danny Williams as he lay on the ground with the ball trapped between his legs.

Turner said: "Danny was being kicked in the legs by one player and in the back by another and, although Grant did go flying in, he did no more than others who remained on the pitch."

But Turner conceded that United were unlikely to appeal against Tony James' sending off for a professional foul in the third minute of stoppage time.

Meanwhile, sixth-placed United will be aiming to keep their Conference play-off hopes alive with a double over bottom team Kettering Town at Edgar Street this Saturday.

The Northamptonshire club, beaten 3-2 by Hereford in September, have lost five of their last six Conference matches and have the poorest away record in the division with just two wins from 14 outings.

The Bulls should be boosted by the return to full fitness of Matt Clarke who made a late appearance against Yeovil and played for 80 minutes in the Reserves' 4-2 win over Telford United's first team on Tuesday.

Young striker Justin Rowe fired in a hat-trick, while Jay Lovett also scored in the friendly game.
