Studley 3 Westfields 0

MIDLAND Alliance title chasers Studley completed a league double over Westfields with the visitors contributing to an excellent game but paying the penalty for not converting three good chances.

All the goals came in an action packed opening half with Westfields playing some superb football and creating three very good chances, none of which were accepted, with Chris Jefferson, Matt Beale and Paul Burton all firing wide when well placed.

Studley opened the scoring with their first real thrust, Andrew Johnson sweeping home a cross from Ian Mitchell after the visiting defence failed to clear.

Within minutes Westfields should have levelled but Jefferson headed wide, and the visitors were immediately punished when Mitchell fired in a speculative long-range drive which goalkeeper Jon Pugh failed to gather, the ball slipping through his fingers.

Roy Jordan almost pulled a goal back with a superb solo run, but Studley gave Westfields a lesson in finishing when the speedy Johnson outpaced the visiting defence to slot the ball past Pugh and open up a three-goal interval cushion.

After the break it was all Westfields but they could not score, with Jordan hitting the crossbar and substitute Sam Bowen having a header cleared off the line.
