Westfields 1 Biddulph Victoria 0

WESTFIELDS responded to a passionate appeal from manager Sean Edwards for more commitment when they bounced back from their midweek defeat at Causeway with a hard-earned, but deserved, Midland Alliance home win.

Paul Burton almost gave Westfields a first-minute lead when he fired just over the bar after a lively opening attack.

They continued to have the better of the opening exchanges with Roy Jordan and Paul Price using the big Stourport pitch effectively to launch a series of attacks down the flanks.

Striker Derek Craddock always looked dangerous for Westfields and he was only foiled when Biddulph goalkeeper Stuart Heeps dived bravely at his feet.

Biddulph hit back to force three corners before the break but were held by a solid home defence.

The decisive goal came seven minutes after the break when the persistent Craddock was brought down in the box by Heeps, Mark Hibbard stepping up to convert the resulting penalty for his fifth goal of the season. This lifted Westfields and they almost added a second through Price. But Biddulph finished strongly and Westfields were indebted to Alec Winstone and Scott Jackson who were outstanding in defence.

Causeway United 4 Westfields 2

Westfields surrendered an early two-goal advantage and crashed to defeat in a midweek clash at Halesowen.

The Hereford outfit got off to a dream start when Roy Jordan volleyed in the opening goal after just eight minutes, and the visitors added a second through Paul Burton, who finished off a fine move.

However, Causeway came storming back, reducing the deficit through Indi Rai and the home side drew level in the 32nd minute when Simon Dixon got in front of visiting goalkeeper Jon Pugh to head in a cross.

Causeway took the lead after the break when Rai latched on to a poor clearance to run through unchallenged, but West-fields had a glorious chance to equalise, Derek Craddock heading narrowly wide.

With time running out, the visitors threw players forward in search of an equaliser but were caught on the break when Dixon completed the scoring in the 90th minute.
