Hereford United boss Graham Turner has welcomed the FA Trophy third-round draw which has given the Bulls a plum home tie against Yeovil Town, the trophy holders and Nationwide Conference leaders.

"It's a cracking draw, though I would have liked as easy a passage as possible because it's a cup competition that we have got a realistic chance of winning," he said.

"We've already had a good go against the Second Division leaders Wigan, so why shouldn't we have a good crack against the Conference leaders?

"I would have thought that there is enough interest to attract a crowd in excess of 3,000 because they will bring a reasonable following."

The tie, to be played on January 11, will be of great interest to United's Jamie Pitman and Ben Smith, both of whom played for The Glovers, and also former Bulls players Michael McIndoe and Gavin Williams who are now playing their part in Yeovil's successful run.

Smith commented: "It's the tie of the round and I'm sure all the lads are looking forward to it. We held them 0-0 at home earlier in the season, although, as holders, I expect they'll be favourites to win."

United hope that midfielder Mick Galloway, who has just completed a two-month loan period from Carlisle, will return to Edgar Street. The experienced Galloway, who has impressed in his stay at Hereford, has returned to Carlisle hoping to agree contractual finances with the struggling Third Division club.

Turner said, "Mick has been outstanding in his spell with us and it would be a shame to lose him. Hopefully he can sort things out with Carlisle and join us on a permanent basis."

United's appeal against Andy Tretton's sending off against Dagenham & Redbirdge has been successful. The FA, after viewing the video and consulting with the referee, rescinded the red card.

Alan Ashman, assistant manager of United under John Newman in the 1980's, has died aged 74. The experienced Ashman managed West Bromwich Albion's 1968 FA Cup winning team and also managed Carlisle and Walsall.

Former Bulls star defender Gareth Davies has quit Chippenham Town. Davies, who joined the Dr Martens Premier side towards the end of last season from Swindon, has struggled to overcome a long-term groin injury.

Next Monday shareholders will have a chance to keep abreast of any progress in the redevelopment plans with an informal meeting at Edgar Street.
