FORMER Hereford United defender Dean Clarke was red-carded as Westfields crashed to a 3-1 away defeat against Bridgnorth in the Midland Football Alliance on Monday.

Clarke, who has joined from Merthyr Tydfil, was dismissed late in the game following a midfield tussle with two-goal home marksman Steve Clifford, with Westfields already 3-1 down.

Bridgnorth took an early lead when ex-Wolves striker Shaun Bradbury beat Jon Pugh with a speculative shot from inside the box.

Westfields replied strongly with good efforts from Mark Hibbard and Chris Jefferson but the Shropshire outfit extended their lead through a Clifford header.

Bridgnorth put the result beyond doubt when Clifford added a third from close range but Westfields reorganised and pulled a goal back through Hibbard who followed up to tap home Paul Price's parried shot.

Previously, Westfields achieved their first Alliance win with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over visiting Boldmere St Michael's at Stourport.

Westfields opened their account after just eight minutes when Roy Jordan fired home from the edge of the box and the Hereford club doubled their advantage on 31 minutes, Hibbard tapping in after John Hill's deep cross had rattled the woodwork.

Boldmere fought back and should have reduced arrears on the stroke of half-time through Aaron Roberts who shot wide from six yards with the goal at his mercy.

But Westfields played some excellent football and sealed their first win on 69 minutes when a chip from substitute Paul Burton hit a post and Hibbard followed up to bag his second goal of the match.
