ENGLAND batsman Vikram Solanki dropped in by helicopter to help Ross-on-Wye Cricket Club's NatWest CricketForce weekend go with a real swing.
The new Worcestershire skipper spent four hours at the club and made a real impression on the dozens of youngsters who turned up to be coached by the 29-year-old star.
Solanki gave batting and bowling advice, enthusiastically joined the painting team and planted a ceremonial tree as well as signing autographs for those present.
"We could not have had a better person to support us," said Ross secretary Therese Warwick. "There were no airs and graces about him and he was a fantastic role model for all the youngsters.
"There was a wonderful feel-good factor over the whole weekend. You just do not see this sort of community project too often."
The CricketForce weekend centred on the renovation of the club's 1887 pavilion. Renovations continued with great enthusiasm throughout the weekend with working parties planning to return this Saturday and Sunday to complete the project.
"We aim to have a facility we can all be proud of," said Therese Warwick.
The club are also well on their way to achieving the £5,000 target needed to re-roof the pavilion with donations and profits from last weekend's activities already boosting the total beyond £3,000.
