Wantage Town 1 Pegasus Juniors 1
PEGASUS produced a strong second-half display which left the home side glad to emerge with a point from this GLS Hellenic League Premier Division clash.
Matters had been rather different, however, in the first period when Pegasus goalkeeper Jamie Hales produced three fine saves to prevent the home side from building up a substantial lead.
Wantage made the early running and went ahead after 15 minutes when Paul Day's cross was chested down by Steve Tucker who drove the ball past Hales into the net.
Richard Bourne had a header cleared off the line by Rob Aldrich and Hales three times denied Day as the home side sought to extend their lead.
After the break, Pegasus, who had rarely been seen in attack in the first half, found their form and almost levelled when Leigh Harris volleyed a Michael Craig cross inches over with goalkeeper Paul Belcher beaten.
But heavy pressure paid off 15 minutes from time when Paul Brown sent Laurence Helme away with a defence-splitting pass and the Pegasus skipper crossed for Chris Mortlock to net with a spectacular volley.
After this, only poor finishing by Pegasus and some fine goalkeeping by Belcher prevented Pegasus from leaving with all three points.
