Presteigne 4
Waterloo Rovers 3
PRESTEIGNE survived a traumatic opening five minutes in which they conceded two goals to fight back to take three Spar Mid Wales League points.
Two defensive errors left the border club two goals adrift but the fight-back began almost immediately when Joel Layton reduced arrears in the sixth minute.
After Phil Ruel had seen a good shot saved, Waterloo extended their lead on the half-hour only for Layton to intercept a back-pass to cut the margin to a single goal before the interval.
The half-time introduction of three substitutes, Willie Lindesay, Robbie Gore and Tony Richards quickly paid dividends with Lindesay providing the cross for Layton to level the scores and complete his hat-trick.
And with just five minutes to play, another fine pass by Lindesay set up Mike Symonds to fire in the winning goal.
On Sunday, Presteigne completed a memorable weekend when goals from Steve Morgan and Nicky Preece set up a 2-1 triumph over Sennybridge in the final of the Radnorshire Cup at Rhayader.
Morgan had warmed up for the final by scoring five goals for Presteigne Reserves the previous day in a 10-0 win over Vale of Arrow in the Watson Associates Mid Wales League South. Chris Jones (2), Russell Wood (2) and Jamie Allen netted the other Presteigne goals.
