SENIOR Cup holders and present Soccer Site Malvern League division one leaders and champions, Bishops Frome, entertained the much-improved Morgan Aero 8 side in the semi-final of this season's Senior Cup on Sunday.

It was the cup holders who progressed to the final with a hard-earned but convincing 5-0 victory.

The first goal came following a mix-up by the Morgan Aero 8 centre-half and goalkeeper, the ball ran free to Chris Jefferson, who walked it into the net. Morgan Aero 8 put up a spirited first-half display and the closest Bishops Frome came to increasing their lead was a free- kick from Wayne Tizzard which just cleared the Morgan bar.

The second-half saw Chris Jefferson put on a fine performance and he put Jason Westmacott through for his strike partner to cleverly chip the advancing Morgan keeper to make it 2-0.

Tizzard then had another long range free-kick, which he bent around the defensive wall only to see Steve Davies in the Morgan goal bring off a superb save to tip the ball around for a corner. But Tizzard was not to be denied and it turned out to be third time lucky when he took another 30-yard-free kick and his shot ended up in the bottom corner giving Steve Davies no chance.

It soon became 4-0 when Darren Lynch headed a corner from Adam Bayliss into the net at the far post. Lynch then completed the scoring with a tap-in at the far post from a Jefferson cross. Morgan Aero 8 had their chances but found veteran Dave Gilbert rock-steady at the centre of the Bishops Frome defence.

The other semi-final between Oak Allstars and Cross Keys was postponed.

The only league game of the day was in division two where Ganglands maintained their record of being involved in high scoring games, this time drawing 4-4 with visitors Fromes Hill.

Kicking downhill, it was Fromes Hill who took the early initiative with first Ross Sweetman hitting the ball home from 18 yards and then from his corner, Steve Evans tapped-in to double the visitors lead. Ganglands pulled a goal back when Wayne Cadmore, recently returned from Army duty in Afghanistan, weaved around several players in the box before slotting the ball home.

Fromes Hill regained their two goal advantage just before half-time when Rob Ashley sent in a thunderbolt header from a Ross Sweetman corner.

Wayne Cadmore pulled another goal back for Ganglands with a good shot but the missed the opportunity for his hat-trick and the equaliser when he missed a penalty with his kick comfortably clearing the bar.

Ganglands did eventually make it 3-3 when Dave Marshall headed home a Lewis Moss cross.

Fromes Hill, with Steve Evans having a good game in midfield and Joe Davies causing the home side problems on the left-wing, regained the lead with an 18-yard volley from David Eaton.

Ganglands took a share of the points when Wayne Cadmore eventually completed his hat-trick with a well-taken goal.

All secretaries are reminded that there is a league meeting on Monday (April 11) at the Civil Service Club, 7.30pm.
