Colwall Women's Hockey Club saved their best performance of the season for the final Severn Division One match against local rivals Leominster.

COLWALL WHC 4, LEOMINSTER 3

Colwall went into the match needing one point to avoid relegation to Severn Division Two.

Leominster went 1-0 up from a short corner within the first ten minutes. Colwall equalised shortly, afterwards from a penalty corner when Jackie Styles deflected a shot from Nicky Glover past the keeper. Leominster came back strongly to score two more goals before the break, one from open play, and the second when their captain Carolyne Hughes converted a penalty flick.

Colwall could have gone further behind when they conceded a succession of short corners, but good defending from Jan Brown, Colleen Rogers, Laura Entwistle and Lucy Halligan, and an excellent full length save from Carole Ward, kept the score to 3-1 at half-time.

Colwall started brightly in the second half, and pulled the score back to 3-2 when Halligan struck a fine shot from a short corner. The score was levelled when Enwistle broke from her own half, ran the length of the pitch and passed the ball to Nicky Glover, who crossed the ball for Coral Handley to deflect the ball cleverly past the oncoming keeper.

Colwall clinched the win when Glover scored from a short corner, following good interplay between Handley and Halligan.

After the match Colwall captain Coral Handley presented awards to Lucy Halligan (player of the season), and Sam Shail (most improved player).
