Record crowds attended this year's daffodil weekend at Oxenhall, with over 1,000 people arriving over two days to see the wild flowers.

The total amount raised for St Anne's Church was over £3,000, with the final tally still to be announced.

Kath Rees, parochial church council secretary, said: "It was complete success. I think we get more and more people each year."

Six coach parties boosted numbers, with one coach bringing walkers from as far afield as Reading. Another coach came from Caldicott.

This week, pensioners from Sheppard House Day Centre in Newent were bused in to view the daffodils.

Mrs Rees added: "The woods, like the Betty Daws, looked very nice and the weather was kind."

Daffodil teas in the village hall were in high demand and Mrs Rees praised the support of local people, for providing home-cooked fare.
