HEREFORDSHIRE rider Chaz Davis, a 250cc Motorcycle World Championship contender, made a good start to the MotoGP season by finishing 11th to gain five points from the opening race in Jerez, Spain.
Davies qualified in 19th position but made up two positions within the first two laps of the 2.7 mile circuit.
The race did not lack excitement for Davies as he battled his way through the midfield.
"The whole weekend was very tough," he said. "The pace this year here is very fast because of the amount of testing that people have done at this circuit before the MotoGP."
Davies now moves on to Portugal for Sunday's race in Estoril.
