Stafford Town 3 Hinton 3
SUBSTITUTE Ross Semple grabbed a late brace as Hinton shared the points in the first of three back-to-back meetings with Stafford, whom they will meet in the two-leg semi-final of the West Midlands League Division 1 League Cup.
Stafford dominated the first half but only managed a solitary goal from their dangerous striker, the first of a well-taken hat-trick. In the 55th minute the home striker again used his pace effectively to out-run the Hinton defence and extended the home lead.
However, a serious back injury to a home player changed the shape of the game and the teams left the field for 25 minutes while an ambulance was called. On the resumption of play it was a different Hinton, with John Williams making a fine run and then seeing his dangerous cross deflected in for an own goal. A doubtful penalty saw Stafford regain a two-goal advantage, but the introduction of substitute Ross Semple proved decisive.
He followed up to force home the rebound from a Simon Gwynne header, and then, deep in injury time, linked up with Liam Craig to fire an equaliser.
