LEDBURY-based jockey Julian Pritchard edged closer to becoming the most successful point-to-point rider of all time when he collected a trio of wins at the Ludlow Hunt meeting at Bitterley.

Victories aboard Martin Ossie in the Men's Open, Fergals Find in a division of the Maiden and Vicars Lad in the Restricted Open took him to the 344 winners mark, just one short of reaching the present record.

Point-to-point racing has taken place in the British countryside since the 19th Century, and although pre-war records are difficult to substantiate, it is accepted that the current record is held by David Turner, who rode 345 winners between 1961 and 1989.

It is probable that the record could be broken this weekend with meetings at Chaddesley Corbett and Maisemore Park.
