FARMERS’ MARKET - There is plenty going on at the Farmers’ and Craft Market this Saturday. Besides the usual array of fine quality local produce we have the first heat of our Ready, Steady, Cook-style competition with three local people showing what they can do with £5 worth of ingredients in half an hour. The winner will be decided by a public ballot at midday. If anyone else wants to enter there are two places left in the other heats. Teme Valley Environment Group will be having a wildlife photography display at the market on Saturday, 9.30am-1pm, thanks to local photographer Judy Kennett. KNIGHTON SHOW AND CARNIVAL - Entries into the horticultural and handicraft section of the show must be handed in to Knighton Library or the show secretary by Wednesday.

NIGEL WINS NIGEL THE DOLL - Knighton Community Support Project helps support the Wales Air Ambulance. As part of the Serendipity Festival held in Knighton recently Wales Air Ambulance volunteers held a name the doll competition. After the festival the competition carried on in the Knighton Community Support charity shop where volunteers Ivy Rudge and Nolly Bebbington sold a lot more names. £44 was raised for the Wales Air Ambulance. The doll’s name was Nigel which was won by Nigel Wakeling. Nigel is going to give the doll to one of his friends and neighbour.

CONCERT SUCCESS - A charity concert held at Hendre Farm, Felindre, with The Three Tenors and Rhayader Male Voice Choir attracted about 330 people including the choir and children.

The profit from the evening is approximately £1,500 with donations still coming in. This is to be split between the Braken Trust and St Michael’s and All Angels’ Church, Beguildy. The organisers thanked everyone for their help especially the Harris Family for the use of their barn and for all the work they did on the night.

NORTON VILLAGE SHOW - Norton Village Show was held at Home Farm, Norton by kind permission of the Lloyd Family. The show attracted many people from a wide area. There was pony classes, dog show, vintage display, car boot sale, shearing display, face painting, Shetland ponies and birds of prey to admire, a horticultural, handicraft etc show which had lots of entries, refreshments and lots of other things to keep everyone entertained.

In the pony classes the supreme champion was Doddenhill Petite Fleur owned by David Wright reserve Champion Bengad Water Plantain owned by Angela Yarnold Wright Judges were David Bufton and Sue Postans. The trophies were presented by Daniel Price. The champion dog was Blondie owned by Babs Edwards and reserved champion Sadie, owned by Daphne Kirkham. The best turned out in the vintage display trophy was won by James Lewis from Presteigne with his Massey Harris 820 1941 tractor.

The judge was Rowand Himbury and the Charlie Davies Memorial Trophy was presented by Charlie’s sister, Sylvia Davies. John Wilding, Mayor of Norton and Presteigne, presented a bouquet of flowers to three members of the Lloyd family June, Margaret and Tracy who collected them on behalf of Mrs Marjorie Lloyd to thank them for all their help and the use of the field. Anna Davies presented the Joan Davies memorial trophy Anna is Joan’s granddaughter.

YOUNG FARMERS’ PRESENTATION EVENING - Knighton Young Farmers held a presentation evening at the Horse and Jockey in Knighton. Before their meal club leaders Ann Vogel and Frances Thomas presented trophies and certificates to club members.
