A NUMBER of workers employed at a Herefordshire factory destroyed by fire are being offered the chance to re-locate.

Skymark’s Leominster base was burned to the ground in June, prompting some employees of the packaging firm to travel to other bases across the country in order to carry on working.

Others have stayed in the town, working from a temporary base near the Southern Avenue industrial estate.

But now the firm is expanding its Scunthorpe site in Lincolnshire, creating up to 40 jobs.

“Quite a few people have already taken up places there and many have shown an interest in moving there,” said the firm’s managing director, John Turner.

Leominster workers have been written to regarding the jobs which include printers and positions in the stores.

Mr Turner added that further changes would not take place at Skymark until at least the end of January when a company review will be held.

“Everything will stay as it is until then,” he said.

“After the review we will be able to see the shape of the business going forward into the new year.”

The fire, on June 17, was thought to have been caused by a mechanical fault in a print machine.

Last month, Skymark hosted an advice day where employees were told of retraining and new career paths should they lose their jobs.
