Just two days to go now and I'm still not suffering a surfeit of great music.

Last night was really special. We had the world premiere of the full orchestral version of John McCabe's 'Songs of the Garden' as part of another hugely successful concert. The last echoes of the applause for that had hardly faded before the Cathedral was cleared and another audience was shown to its seats for a Bach recital by the outstanding Rachel Podger.

It was her second appearance at Three Choirs 2009 as she had played at Wyastone, near Ross on Wye on Sunday (how long ago that seems) with her Brecon Baroque ensemble. Rachel's Bach recital, stunning in the late night stillness of the Cathedral, was recorded by BBC Radio 3 as was the evening's earlier concert.

As I helped to guide people to their seats for that performance I had a chance to talk briefly to John McCabe and to tell him how much I'd enjoyed his other Hereford world premiere on Tuesday afternoon. Many people have told me that concert by Stile Antico was a high point of the week so far but it would be good to hear about other people's 'best bits'.

As well as my brief meeting with our Composer in Residence the day had other highlights, too. There was a chance during the break in the afternoon event at Leominster Priory to talk to a group who've been to every musical event together. They're a real United Nations coming from Greece, Cyprus, the USA and the Middle East and thay're all here with a long-time British Three Choirs supporter.

There was also the moment when a couple from, I think, Scandinavia misread the name on my badge and thought I was a Bishop and not a Bob!
