PEOPLE are being urged to plant two trees to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of a Herefordshire horticulturist.
Thomas Andrew Knight developed many of the fruit and vegetable varieties eaten today, wrote the original Pomona Herefordiensis and went on to become president of the London Horticultural Society.
Herefordshire Council wants people to plant the trees as part of its Fruit Tree initiative, which is in its 11th year.
James Bissett, principal countryside officer said numbers were limited but more of his fruit varieties would be specially budded-on ready for next year.
Apple trees available under the scheme include Bosbury Pippin, Hereford Cross, Red Blenheim and Violette.
All trees are supplied bare root as one year maidens in a plastic bag. All trees cost £9.50.
