THOUSANDS of women are limbering up for the annual Race for Life in Hereford.

The 5km course round the racecourse is aimed at encouraging all shapes and sizes to have a fun day and raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research UK.

Doing their bit on July 19 will be 45 Tesco workers from the Bewell Street store.

“This is the ninth year I’ll be doing it and each time I am amazed by how many people there are,” said team leader Tracy Griffiths.

“My brother has just been diagnosed with bowel cancer and has started chemotherapy, so we hope everything goes ok.”

The store will be holding a pink week from Monday (July 13) until Saturday, July 18 for customers’ donations.

A group of six or seven nurses from Belmont Vets are also taking part and are aiming to raise £100 each.

Sponsorship forms are available from the centre in Belmont Road.

Mary Deaville, from Rosson- Wye, is to give a free prize draw ticket for every pound sponsored in her quest to raise £1,000.

The draw is at Ross Baptist Church on Saturday (July 11) from 11am until 1pm.

There will be cooking demonstrations by Pampered Chef and 15 per cent of sales over £400 will go to Cancer Research UK.

Mrs Deaville’s father Brian died of a brain tumour in 2008 and her mother Lillian has also lost a breast as a result of cancer.
