A HEREFORD woman missing for two days was found dead in woodland near Fownhope, an inquest heard.

Christine Simpson, of Church Road, Tupsley, was found surrounded by the smell of honeysuckle and wild flowers according to forensic physician Dr Stephen Jennings.

Two suicide notes were found among her belongings.

The inquest heard how Mrs Simpson, 60, had been suffering from anxiety prior to her death on June 23 last year, with concerns over her son’s health and her impending retirement from nursing.

Pathologist Helen Whitwell said Mrs Simpson may have been dead for up to 36 hours before being found in the isolated spot near Marcle Ridge.

County coroner David Halpern said Mrs Simpson sought out a peaceful place in which to die. He recorded that she took her own life.

Speaking after the inquest, Mrs Simpson’s family described her as a loving wife and mother who would be sorely missed.
