WETHERSPOONS is still ready to deliver a pub to Leominster’s old post office – and work could be underway this summer.

The conversion hasn’t happened yet because the pub chain put other projects first and denies the delay is anything to do with the economic downturn.

Eddie Gershon, a spokesman for JD Wetherspoon PLC, said the company was still “very committed” to converting the Corn Square site, which has planning permission.

“The opening dates put out last year were given in good faith, but other projects piggy-backed what we wanted to do in Leominster. Now we are looking at the work starting in August this year, with an opening date in 2010,” said Mr Gershon.

A first application to convert what was Leominster’s main post office was refused by Herefordshire Council planners in June 2007. The council’s northern area planning sub-committee approved an amended application in November that year.
