A GOLDEN Valley charity put a rural slant on the credit crunch at a national level this week when it featured on a prime time radio programme.

Dore Community Transport, which helps residents unable to use public transport, led the way in a programme about the crisis on Radio 4’s Open Country.

Manager Julie Archer took the crew around south Herefordshire to meet people including an organic beef farmer, two Peterchurch artists and Juliet Noble, from ice cream firm Shepherds.

“What came out was that Herefordshire people are very stoical, they are going to keep going,” Julie said. “We all love living here so much that regardless of how rubbish the economy is we are going to stay here and enjoy our life.”

For the charity itself things could not be busier. Demand for its services has risen in the past 12 months and more drivers are needed to keep three buses serving South Herefordshire on the roads.
