AN appeal has been launched to help improve the sight of a cat found abandoned in a hedge in Hereford.
Hiro, a 12-week-old grey-haired kitten, is recovering from losing his eye following a bout of cat flu.
Although his condition has stabilised he needs further treatment to deal with a film of skin left over his remaining eye.
Bobby Vanter, a committee member of the RSPCA in Herefordshire, is hoping cat lovers will help cover the costs of the treatment, which will take place at the Eye Veterinary Clinic in Leominster.
Mrs Vanter continually looks after cats at her Tupsley home but has been particularly touched by Hiro’s plight.
“I do this all the time but there are definitely some cats that leave extra paw prints on the heart. He is such a character and such a brave little cat,” said Mrs Vanter.
“He has purred through all the treatment. He has been wonderful.
“We have stabilised the remaining eye so he won’t lose it but we are hoping to give him a bit more vision than he has got.”
Mrs Vanter will continue to look after Hiro until he makes a full recovery and a secure home can be found for him.
Anyone who would like to make a donation can do so at the RSPCA’s Hereford shop in Commercial Road or send a cheque there made out to the treasurer. It is estimated between £750 and £1,000 will be needed.
