DR Paul Scott is turning to the frontline to bring his town's First World War memorial to life.

Leominster Town Council seems set to back Dr Scott's big push for a day dedicated to the Great War and on his frontline are the families with stories, and maybe even memorabilia, to put personalities to the names of more than 100 men commemorated on the memorial.

First World War day is Dr Scott doing his bit for the Leominster Priory Organ appeal. The organ, a centrepiece for the town's Priory Church, needs repairs from damage done by roof leaks.

Dr Scott, from South Street, Leominster, was inspired by his own interest in the conflict. His nephew Richard van Emden is a noted scholar of the subject.

The day – with a provisional date around July – met with an enthusiastic response when put to a recent meeting of Leominster Town Council’s general purposes committee. It will go to the full council later this month.

Already, Dr Scott can call in reinforcements from the town's museum and local history society. If the idea progresses he will take it to the likes of the Royal British Legion, Western Front Association, and Imperial War Museum.

A full appeal for family stories and memorabilia will be made once the project is up and running.
