A KINGS Caple resident will be taking a seat on her very own piece of history.

As part of the Take-A-Pew project, Angela Williams has collected a church pew for her kitchen.

“I’ve always wanted to get my hands on a beautiful church pew. This seems like a great way of preserving church heritage while obtaining a piece of local history to me,” she said.

“It’s a win-win situation as this also contributes to local worthwhile causes.”

Martin Neicho, from Rosson- Wye’s EnviroAbility, which is involved in the scheme, said: “This project is the first of its kind in the country and will mean that a church will get a fair price for their pews and at the same time create opportunities for people from disadvantaged groups.”

Take-A-Pew is a partnership between Herefordshire Council, EnviroAbility and the Diocese of Hereford.

Thousands of pews are becoming available because they are being replaced with stackable seating to create more flexible space for use by local communities.
