A BORDERS estate agent is hoping to make a legendary sale later this month by auctioning off King Arthur’s wedding venue.

McCartneys in Knighton is offering buyers the chance to purchase a ‘slice of history’ when it sells Castle Hill, former site of the historic Knucklas Castle, to the highest bidder.

The building itself now lies in ruins but is said to have hosted the nuptials of the legendary king to his Guinevere in the middle ages.

Jenny Layton, McCartneys auctioneer, said: “This is a rare opportunity to purchase a really unusual site with breathtaking views. You don’t get many castle ruins for sale on the open market – especially ones with such historic importance.”

Commissioned by Norman knight Ralph Mortimer and overseen by his 11 year-old son Roger, Knucklas Castle was thought to have been built in 1240 before being destroyed by Owain Glyndwr’s men during his 1402 rebellion.

The land for sale stretches to more than 21 acres and will go in two lots on November 27.
