A HEREFORDSHIRE teenager who crashed his car during a drunken late night drive, killing his best friend, has been locked up for more than five years.
Charles Bennett, 17 at the time, and of Gruneisen Street in Whitecross, was almost twice the drink-drive limit when he attempted to drive 18-year-old Kieran Powell back to his Tillington home just before 3am on May 8 this year.
Hereford Crown Court heard how Bennett, who had passed his driving test just three months earlier, struck a tree shortly after clipping a bollard while turning onto the Tillington Road, off Roman Road.
Mr Powell died instantly.
