HEREFORD was tickled pink last week as firms joined the fight against breast cancer.

Hundreds of people showed their support for Breast Cancer Haven last Friday by taking part in Pink Day.

Students and workers ditched their uniforms for pink pyjamas and leotards to raise hundreds for the city charity.

Staff at Gabbs Solicitors, Broad Street, came to work in pyjamas and teddy bear outfits and are planning more this weekend.

“We had a successful day and we’re doing a charity walk on Saturday and hope to raise more money,” said Elaine Phillips, of Gabbs.

There were curious scenes throughout the city – staff at Keith St Peter hairdressers dyed their hair pink, while Sue Jones of Doughty’s became a fairy and asked customers to name a teddy bear. Staff at Specsavers, Halifax and Wiggins also went pink, while Aylestone High School pupils happily ditched their uniform for the day.

The charity had collected £1,500 by Monday lunchtime and will receive thousands more through the coming weeks. Haven fundraiser, Sharon Organ, thanked the city for its colourful efforts.

“I’d just like to thank everybody for their support – in times when things are difficult we’ve been turning black into pink,” she said.
