THE minor injuries unit at Kington Court may soon re-open full time.

Herefordshire Primary Care Trust is finalising a plan to restore the service and Paul Ryan, head of commissioning, said a date would be given for the unit to be brought “back up to scratch”.

Kington Town Council has called an urgent public meeting because the unit is open only on Saturday mornings.

Mayor Allan Lloyd said there was increasing concern that promises made publicly by the PCT two months ago had not been fulfilled.

Readers have contacted the Hereford Times including Jenny Tisdale, of Kington, who took her husband to the unit on a Saturday to find a message on the door saying “closed due to illness”.

Mrs Tisdale said Kington people had fought hard to retain most of the services of the former Cottage Hospital and were promised a roundthe- clock minor injuries unit at Kington Court.

Councillor Terry James has also written to chief executive Chris Bull about the continued closure of the unit, saying: “One morning a week is not a service, people do not have accidents to fit in with the trust’s timetable."
