PARKING problems in a north Hereford suburb are expected to improve, despite fears current arrangements are inadequate.

Herefordshire College of Technology is increasing its car parking capacity to provide extra spaces for students and staff as it undertakes an ambitious expansion programme.

But Andrew Bowley, a resident of Prospect Place, is concerned that current car parking arrangements fall short, with many students parking in the streets on and around Whittern Way.

“Herefordshire College of Technology has a brand new car park and it is half the size it ought to be,” said Mr Bowley.

“The college said that as soon as the new car park was built the problem would ease but nothing has changed at all.

“We have the same situation as we had last year – nothing has changed.”

But HCT principal Ian Peake said more parking spaces were being created. The college currently had 282 spaces for cars, 14 disabled bays, six spaces for visitors, two motorcycle bays and 50 spaces for cycles.

“When finished, there will be 389 parking spaces at the college for cars and 100 spaces for cycles,” he said.

“The other parking spaces will meet the needs of our students and staff.”

Last year, the Hereford Times reported residents’ fears that parking problems would lead to an accident in Whittern Way, which is also close to Hereford Sixth Form College and Hereford College of Arts.
